Fiction into Reality – Movie Magic now Everyday Technology

Movies tend to be the window into the future. Many screen writers and movie special effects staff come together to spin their imaginations together. Sometimes they couple together innovative technology that is currently being used, then fill in the rest with their imagination. By doing this, movies that have depicted futuristic technology have been able to capture audiences. Many watch the movie and wonder how life would be if the technology they see in the movies did exist. Many think that one day, humanity will get to the stage they see in the movie and then life will be completely different. Well IT GURUS OF ATLANTA is here to tell you that many gadgets and technologies used in a lot of movies done in the past are currently being used. Its surprising how technology creeps into society and steadily becomes a part of our everyday living without anyone batting an eye or realizing just how significant a change this technology is doing.

Star Trek Replicator – 3D Printer

Many Star Trek fans know the infamous replicator which can produce any food or material that the mind can conceive if it is given instructions. This device was found in the cabin quarters of the crew members and most replicated food, but sometimes could replicate different objects such as a glass, plate, or a hand-held device. In the movie and series, fans were left with the thought of being able to use a replicator. Now in 2017, we are almost there. We currently have 3D printers. Just in case you have been in a cave for the past 3-5 years, a 3D printer can create a replication of almost anything once it receives the image or description of what the object is supposed to be. 3D printers have varied functions and functionality that some can create buildings, objects, or even food. The materials that the 3D printer uses is critical to its function and what its capabilities are. While we do have a long way to go before we have a full-fledged “replicator” from Star Trek, we are very close to where this once thought concept is now a part of our reality.

Star Trek PADD – iPad

The Star Trek PADD was used in the early version of Star Trek in the days of William Shatner. The PADD was used by the crew members to touch, type, and input data into a single pane hand-held computer with a flat pane. This device during the 70s was the equivalent of imagination and considered another device that no one during that era would live to see. Well that was before Apple came out with the iPad. The iPad came into homes on January 27th, 2010 and introduced by Steve Jobs at Apple. The iPad literally blew the minds of many technology enthusiasts because the iPhone could move from just a mobile device to a full-fledged flat, hand-held device that could do the same capabilities as in Star Trek. The wave came in of iPads and not much correlated the technology with Star Trek to get the euphoric feeling.

Star Trek Medical Tricorder – Scanadu Scout

All Trekkies know about this device as during any medical emergency in Star Trek, the medical team responded by first using a “Tricorder”. This device can get the vitals of the patient in a matter of seconds by pointing the device, pressing a button, then the device would read the vitals quickly. Medically, no one thought this device was anywhere near to being created. That was until the invention and introduction of Scanadu Scout. If you haven’t heard of this device yet, then now is the time to make that introduction. The Scanadu Scout is a lightweight version of the Star Trak Tricorder which can give a person’s vitals in a matter of seconds by simply pressing the device gently against the forehead, it can bring back immediate readings. Right now, the device after its initial launch, has been disapproved by the FDA, they are currently ramping up to ensure their next round of tests surpass the FDA guidelines.

Star Trek Communicator – Flip Phones – Smartphones

The Star Trek communicator which was a device very similar looking with the flip capacity of what we grew to know as the “flip phone”. That technology quickly came into society and as soon as it came in, it got modified and was quickly pushed out. Today the flip phone is an antique that is no longer supported by most networks and is replaced by the smartphone. The smartphone is literally a small computer in the palm of your hand that can compute, communicate, and surf the internet from literally anywhere. It is amazing to see that years ago the Star Trek Communicator was deemed to be so futuristic and today we have not only implemented that technology, but surpassed it as well.

Technology is clearly a part of our society and is key to the future of humanity. As we evolve, so does the technology we use. Services, hardware, and even virtualization which is the marriage of hardware and software shows the infinite possibilities to come. IT GURUS OF ATLANTA is a technology based firm which was created in this technological error and prides itself as a company that is constantly evolving with this innovation embraces the changes.
